This might be the route that you want to take. It might not even be quite as expensive as you might think at first. Many people pass the option of designing and building their own home because they think it will cost more than buying their own, but this is not the case. More often than not you can build your dream home at less cost than actually buying it.
The problem of course is one of time and trust. In order to build your perfect home, you are going to have to be prepared to spend a lot of time both on its construction and on finding the right people to do the job. Then again, you can also save some money by handling some of the things yourself. You might not know a whole lot about building, but by the time you get done your new home you will be a borderline expert. Aside from finding the right builders and designers, you will also need to find some good land. Minneapolis is not like Leaside real estate, in that there are still large plots available around the city. That is part of the advantage of living in a flatter area of the world. Another is that this real estate does not fluctuate too much in price from one area to the other; until they are developed most of the land is the same. So you just have to find the right plot, design the right plans, and start working on your own dream home instead of hoping it's already out there.
