Manufacturing Jobs

For those that have just settled into a new home in the Minneapolis area, there are a number of economic sectors where you could start looking for employment. The city is raising its status as a high technology center and has a number of companies working in financial services. But the backbone industry of the city is definitely manufacturing. Eighteen of the country's Fortune 500 companies are located in the Twin Cities area with five in Minneapolis and many of them have factory floors perfect for those with experience working with crimp terminals or as a foreman.

The 3M Corporation is the largest manufacturing firm in the city. It employs more than eighteen thousand people. On top of that and the Fortune 500 companies, there are also twelve more businesses that make the Fortune 1000 list. If your skills are working with a pneumatic conveyor system, that is probably transferable to working in the majority of these firms. The city has companies that create everything from super computers to garden tools but their principal industries are electronics, machinery, food processing, graphic arts, medical products, and milling.

Some of the companies that you may have heard of with their headquarters or a large presence in Minneapolis are Target and PepsiAmericas. Target is ranked as the 33rd largest company in the country based on revenue and PepsiAmericas holds the number 531 spot. They require employees working in the office all the way to developing a new tamper evident band for Pepsi bottles.

Minneapolis and the Twin Cities have the most Fortune 1000 companies per capita in the country. This means that one of the manufacturing firms in the city that falls under this category is a great place to work your way up the business ladder. There are countless people who started working with swaged fittings on the production floor and now have that great corner office and are a major presence in the company and business world.

If you want to get into the manufacturing sector starting on a higher level, the University of Minnesota is also located in the city. This school has more than fifty thousand students and you better believe this school counterweights the manufacturing industry and that many of its students will find great careers after graduation with one of the production firms located here.

Manufacturing has always been one of the backbones of America's economy and produces quality jobs for people working at a number of levels. The current average hourly wage for a production worker in the city is $17.59. This is much higher than you will find with a career that does not require extensive training after high school. If you've just bought a house in the city and need a good job quickly, this is a great place to start.
